The creation and access to large-scale datasets has revolutionized many fields of science and science education is no exception. In this talk, I will discuss the creation of such a dataset and how my group has used it to investigate issues of equity in physics student learning. I will also discuss findings from a related study on the impact of Learning Assistants on equity in physics student pass rates. The findings from both of these studies will be examined through a quantitative critical perspective.
